What inspired Poseiden to go to Oahu and what was the purpose behind the tour?
The quest behind the Poseiden Foundation, Oahu Tour was to Empower, Inspire and Motivate the youth to follow their dreams and passions. The reason we chose Hawaii was because each athlete on the tour has connections to the island Oahu. As for myself, I lived on Oahu as a child attending the Aikahi Elementary School in Kailua from second to fifth grade. It was a place that has always inspired me since I was small. Though each of us on the tour wanted to be part of motivating the local youth to understand that through perseverance they can accomplish anything, the personal reason was to open their perspective to the many positive avenues one can take in this lifetime and to see that there are options in life. Drug use has been on the rise not only amongst adults but in increasing numbers amongst the youth as well. There have even been cases of kids as young as14 beginning to use what in Hawaii is called "ICE." It's a true problem, but instead of explaining to them that drugs are bad, we opened the forum instead to what pathways one can take to live a successful fulfilling life. We spread the message that it's not over night your dreams come to fruition but it takes time, trial and error, and sometimes years to accomplish your goals. It's all about not giving up.
How does Poseiden inspire the youth?
Poseiden Foundation inspires the youth through hands-on interaction by motivating them to choose positive paths and accomplish their dreams. How Poseiden Foundation is able to accomplish our mission is by teaming-up with professional athletes and professionals in general who donate their time and work as a team. We give back to the community by going to schools and having an open forum with students, which allows them to ask us questions on our life experiences, how we started out, and how they too can reach their goals.
Each tour is unique and Poseiden uses skateboarding as a means of reaching the youth. Poseiden does not believe in building up and breaking down parks and is not big on "demos." Our whole outlook is to bring everyone together on a humanitarian level of equality. We have “meet and greet” sessions at local skate parks where the youth is able to interact one-on-one with professionals, get pointers, do best trick competitions, win swag giveaways and play capture the product. As we see the local community leave our events with smiles and motivation, we know that our mission to inspire young-adults to believe in themselves is being accomplished.
What were your goals for this tour?

A caravan packed with Brazilian, Argentinian, Chilean, Polish, French, Latina and American skateboarders, photographers and skate enthusiasts traveled north along the California coast to fulfill The Poseiden Foundation's West Coast Thumbs-Up tours mission, to inspire and motivate the youth to follow their dreams in communities in and around Southern and Northern California.
The tour began with a series of “meet-and-greets,” in which international pros met with kids at parks in or around troubled neighborhoods. By skating and interacting with local skateboarders, the Poseiden crew sought to positively motivate youth through skateboarding.
Local kids stared wide-eyed as the pros zipped around each park. They watched as Braulio Sagas floated effortlessly over huge gaps, Milton Martinez grinded every ledge and coping block in sight and Jessica Florencio kickflipped over trash cans.
Excited by the chance to be a part of the session, the locals fed off of Poseiden's positive energy and pushed their own levels of skating. Poseiden's pros encouraged and instructed local kids as they worked to learn new tricks.
The kids who showed the most drive were rewarded for their spirit with free gear from Etnies, Gravity skateboards and Poseiden's other sponsors. Often, these kids suffered from advanced razor tail, pressure cracks or griptape-induced shoe deterioration and were noticeably in need of some fresh skate gear.

Skate Baja, A. C. [non-profit] in collaboration with Poseiden Foundation was able to bring Poseiden Founder Micaela Ramirez, Leticia Bufoni, Eliana Sosco and Jessica Florencia along with Ana Paula Negrao for a visit to Baja California during the celebration of “La Baja Patina”.
La Baja Patina is a series of weekly skate gatherings organized and sponsored by local skateshops and skate companies celebrating Go Skateboarding Day in a different city each Saturday during 5 weeks. Poseiden Foundation and the girls were part of the second week in a 2-day visit to Ensenada, June 23 and 24, and then a full day in Mexicali, June 25th.
The group met up with Daniela Ramírez, President of Skate Baja, in Encinitas after the Transworld Go Skateboarding Day, Shreducation event they traveled directly to Ensenada, Baja California, México.
In Ensenada the girls visited two skate spots, “La Gaviota” and “Josefa”, where they skated with about 30 local skaters each day and organized quick best trick contests to give out prizes they had brought from supporters like: Etnies, Hoopla, Bones, Billabong, Urgh, Skatepark Of Tampa, Few, Emily Strange, Adidas, Mahfia and product from Transworld Skateboarding.
In between the two days there was time for the girls to skate another local spot, “El Arroyo”, where they were the first female skaters to really shred the spot. There was also some down time at the beach and at a carnival that was in town.
Friday lunch was hosted by a local skateshop, Fu Manchu, followed by an autograph signing at the store after which the group headed to Mexicali.

June- Poseiden Fundraiser Hensley’s

A throng of art-lovers, music-listeners, and community supporters came out to Hensley’s Pub & Grill to Poseiden Foundation’s Annual Skateboard Art Auction. It was quite the success, we had live bands, and painted skate decks for the perfect eye-candy and conversation starters. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and we would like to thank those who hung out and mingled in support of Poseiden Foundation. Hensley’s is the neighborhood pub and grill, which hosts local bands and throws great events. It’s by Tamarack Beach in Carlsbad and a local favorite on the weekends.

Hensley’s was gracious to house the event and also 5% of the bar proceeds went to the Poseiden Foundation. A special note of thanks to Analee, the manager of Hensley’s for helping Poseiden set up the event, as well as the Poseiden team and supporters, we couldn’t have done it without you. Poseiden is proud to announce that this fundraiser raised $2,120, which is enough for all summer events and West Coast Tour.

Along with art, music talent from Angel City Outcasts, No Prophet, and Jeff Diamond set the vibe for the crowd. It was all very groovy and we thank them for playing at the show. It is nice to see people dancing and happy at our functions. The night included raffle items with our sponsors: Armourdillo, Surfkin Fire, Etnies, Hoopla, Theeve Truck, Stereo and Surf Ride. The prizes given out included gift certificates to retail stores and shops, and of course great products.
We had so many talented artists that participated. And would like to give you some insight on some of the artists. The artists that participated in the show were: Jane Dope, Pete “Hot Dog Finlan, Yelley, Artoo, Sarah Spinks, Sam Phillips, Pablo Aguilar, Tia Harper, Tiffany Laing, Ron Rauto, Duke Duel, and Marc Sandoval.

May- El Camino High School (ECHS) Loretta Street Clean-up and Skate Clinic.
This was a fun-filled day of soft wheeled skateboarding as well as beautifying the community of Oceanside. It kicked off with a nine a.m. rally by El Camino High school students with their garbage collection bags in hand as they collected an assortment of debris: glass, paper, cigarette butts, and plastic bags. Let it be known, trashcans are available dear citizens, use them.

We had a fun contest where all the trash bags were weighed individually; the best picker-upper award went to Joe Gradin Adams. Joe walked away with a new set of kicks from our proud sponsor Etnies, his trash was the heaviest in the one-hour time. Everyone who contributed in cleaning our streets walked away winners, scoring schwag from Osiris, Emily Strange, Gravity boards, Hoopla, Skatera and Khiro. Thank you again to our sponsors for all the support!

A little work beforehand, and definitely some play followed as skaters hit the hill hard. For those that don’t know, Loretta St. is a gritty straight 35+mph bomb from the top, with a tail wind of 5 mph at the bottom to the run out end. The kids worked their way up or stopped mid way at their comfort level’s discretion. Going downhill has never felt so great, check it out for yourselves, you will be glad you did.
